đą Planting & Spacing
Always plant at least two tomatillo plantsâthey need cross-pollination to produce fruit.
Give them plenty of space: about 2 feet between plants and 3 feet between rows.
âď¸ Sunlight & Soil
Choose a sunny spot with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.
They prefer well-draining, fertile soil with a pH between 6.0 and 7.0.
Add compost or aged manure to enrich the soil before planting.
đ§ Watering
Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Deep watering is better than frequent shallow watering.
Mulch helps retain moisture and suppress weeds.
đż Support & Growth
Tomatillos can grow 4â5 feet tall and wide, so stake or cage them to keep fruit off the ground and improve airflow.
Theyâre indeterminate, meaning theyâll keep growing and producing until frost hits.
đ Pollination
Bees and other pollinators are essential. Planting flowers nearby can help attract them.
Without proper pollination, youâll get flowers but no fruit.
đ Harvesting
Pick tomatillos when the husk splits and the fruit fills it out. They should feel firm and slightly sticky.
Harvest regularly to encourage more fruit production.
If youâre growing them for salsa verde (which I highly recommend), youâre in for a treat.
